RAPID MOTION is a way of life, a mind-set, an attitude that enables and drives an individual to accept and meet their greatest challenges, to excel far beyond their own and others expectations.
To improve the quality of life (physical, mental, and emotional) and functional independence and maximize fitness and athletic performance of those with spinal cord injuries via intense rehabilitation, exercise training, and research programs, and to increase spinal cord injury awareness through educational programs and events.
Rapid Motion is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 2000 to help athletes with spinal cord injuries. The vision for the future of Rapid Motion is of a recreation and rehabilitation facility where people with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities can go to participate in various activities such as sports, exercise, therapy, support groups, and educational programs. Until then, the primary goal of Rapid Motion is to increase community education and awareness of spinal cord injury. In addition, our goal is to raise money from direct contributions/sponsorship and through our participant driven fundraising programs such as The Rapid Motion Challenge 5K Run, Walk, and Community Awareness Event. The first Rapid Motion Challenge 5K took place on June 10, 2001. Various individuals and groups committed to supporting the race day events and activities, and over 300 people attended to participate in the race, cheer on the athletes, observe the various educational displays, and volunteer. On June 9, 2002, in conjunction with Andrews University Physical Therapy, Rapid Motion held the second Rapid Motion Challenge. By, 2002 over $22,000 was utilized to support the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, to provide individual grants to disabled athletes for training, equipment, or travel expenses to major competitions. Over the past several years, Rapid Motion has sponsored the activities of the Southern Ohio Wheelchair Tennis Club (S.O.W.T.C.). With similar goals—to help disabled athletes—it was natural for Rapid Motion and the S.O.W.T.C. to join together. The S.O.W.T.C. welcomes wheelchair athletes of all ages and abilities, and the directors are dedicated to teaching and training them. For information about the S.O.W.T.C., visit their website. |
